Day Six: favorite thing about the film → everything
It’s impossible to pinpoint what I love most about Brother Bear. The movie is flawless in my eyes and it has always been my favorite Disney movie. The characterization is amazing, the soundtrack is beautiful, the animation is gorgeous, the humor is funny without being overpowering… I could go on for a while, so I’ll stop there.
But one thing that stands out to me about the film is that there is no villain. Kenai, Denahi, and Koda’s mother all play the villain in different parts of the film, yet none of them are actually villains. This has hardly been done before (at least not in Disney history). And what an amazing message that sends. Sometimes we can be quick to decide whether people (or ourselves) are good or bad, without remembering that they can be a bit of both. Just because someone has been a villain at some point in their life, it doesn’t mean they still are, it doesn’t necessarily make them a bad person, and it definitely doesn’t mean they can’t change.
